Dinner with Paraguayans

Dinner Tuesday night was nothing short of amazing.

A family-friend at church works with a woman (Anna) who was born and raised in Paraguay. When Anna heard about our upcoming trip to Paraguay, she expressed interest in meeting us before we left. Tuesday night was the night and she made a traditional Paraguayan meat dish and a cornbread-type side dish (both delicious, to Brandon's delight). Talking with her and her husband about Paraguay only made us want to go there even more.

Anna wasn't familiar with the school that Brandon will be working at, but when we showed her the address she knew the area of the city that it was in and said that it was a great neighborhood. We talked about taxis and grocery shopping, running trails and vacation spots. It was nice to hear first-hand about what we were going to encounter. Up until now, we only have e-mailed information to go off of; that, and what I can gather from various websites . . . and we all know how reliable the internet is.

God has proven, once again, His incredible providence as He's placed each of us - Brandon and I; our friend at church; Anna - in exactly the place He wants us. Thank you, Lord!

Countdown

Well, we have two weeks until we leave and things are getting crazy. Between all the friends and family that want to meet up before we leave, we have most lunches and dinners booked until we go. We'll have to start doing breakfasts and late-night desserts! That, and we'll have to pack in our sleep since there's not much time left to do that, either!

God has been SO faithful through this whole process and we are anxious to see Him continue to provide in miraculous ways as we start this new phase in our lives. From the ease of getting Bailey's paperwork in time to the seemingly perfect duffel bags we ordered, God has orchestrated all the details, both large and small. It's been nice to sit back and watch Him work. As I told my mom the other day, I fall more and more in love with Him every day. Our God is great!

New Feature

I've added a "Prayer Requests" link at the top of the blog page so that we can keep a running list of prayer requests & answers to prayer (rather than keep making new posts). Please check in with that list as you pray for our journey into the unknown!

God's Faithfulness

6/9/2010

Today God has reminded me just how faithful He is, in spite of me.

On Sunday evening we talked with our church family about our trip to Paraguay and asked for their support, both through prayer and financially. Already, we have had many people respond and their encouragement couldn't have come at a better time.

We also had our doctor's appointment for Bailey's hip and it doesn't look like anything is wrong. The orthopedist says that it's just a tendon that is making the "click"; they'll do an ultrasound to double-check, but the doctor didn't seem concerned at all. PRAISE GOD!

Thank you, Lord, for your unending faithfulness and for reminding me (again) that you are in control of everything.

Prayer Requests

6/3/2010

We are now just 5 1/2 weeks away from our trip to Paraguay! It's snuck up quickly on us, to say the least. As we are getting ready to leave, our primary concern is having all our our paperwork together in time for the trip. Please join us in praying for the following:

- Early receipt of FBI background checks. In order to receive residency status, Brandon and I had to submit background check requests on ourselves to then take to the Paraguayan consulate. What we thought was a 4 week process has turned into a 13 week process, which puts us past when we leave. We are unsure what will happen if we don't receive the FBI reports in time, but are trusting God to work in His mysterious ways to expedite the process!

- Quick receipt of Bailey's passport (we need it before getting our Paraguayan Visas)

- Easy process with the Paraguayan consulate in attaining Visas and residency status for all of us

We will also be meeting with our church family on Sunday night, June 6th, to talk about what our ministry in Paraguay will be and how they can support us both through prayer and financially. Please be in prayer with us that we receive the support that we need.

On June 8th, Bailey has a doctor's appointment with a pediatric orthopedist to check on a "click" her pediatrician heard in her right hip joint. The pediatrician didn't seem overly concerned, but is sending us to the specialist as a precautionary measure. Please pray that the doctor is right and there's nothing wrong! That, and wisdom for us if there is a displacement issue that has to be addressed!

I think that's it for now! I'll work on keeping the blog updated (I've saved it as a favorite bookmark, so I'll see the link every time I get online).
